Working with Marbek Resource Consultants Ltd., Crechem played a leading technical role
in a study of perfluorooctane sulphonate and its precursors, an Environment Canada's
priority substance. Crechem conducted comprehensive research on uses of the substance
in textiles, coatings, fire fighting foams, and photographic materials as well as
on their life cycles. Crechem identified specific environmental pathways of the substance
within each application sector. Crechem further compiled various methods for the detection
and analysis of the substance, disposal options, and substitutes. Crechem's work provided
a basis for an economic analysis of the elimination of the substance from the
Canadian economy.
