Resorption Canada Ltd. (RCL) is a world leader in research, development and
application of high-temperature plasma gasification. For many years, Crechem has
been retained by RCL to provide design expertise in support of
the commercialization of plasma gasification systems for ultimate disposal of both
hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials. Crechem's contribution encompasses:
1) design of gasification reactor, cyclone, venturi scrubber, absorption column
and waste gas burner; 2) process modelling and simulation; 3) system optimization
to control pollutant releases within regulatory limits while keeping total cost
at a minimum; 4) prediction for formation of many pollutants such as dioxins/furans,
polyaromatic hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides and gaseous acids; and 5) design and
preparation of gas sampling systems and procedures. Crechem played a key role in
characterizing, with computer design tools, various waste materials and their
gasification products, including municipal solid waste, biomedical waste,
fluorescent light ballasts (PCB waste), insecticides and flame retardants.
Crechem's services helped RCL obtain its first site license for gasification
destruction of PCB waste and secure many subsequent contracts
as a result of design efficiency and accuracy.
