Evaluation of Chemical Releases from Wet Processing Textile Mills |
|
Health Canada, 2002 |
|
Crechem conducted an extensive evaluation of aqueous releases from wet processing
textile mills to assist Health Canada in assessing the exposure levels of chemical
substances present in textile mill effluents. The study covered a complete cycle of
a release evaluation exercise, including survey and review of background information;
questionnaire design; selection of representative mills for site visit; plant tour
and interview with facility personnel; data gathering and collation; and final report
preparation. The study evaluated 16 classes of chemicals commonly used at textile
mills and discharged to sewer systems. Release estimates for the Canadian industry
were also provided based on the industry profile and the mill-specific data gathered.
